The VATA type find it very difficult to maintain regular habits, that is, to eat and sleep at regular times. But this is the most important thing for them to do. When Vata is out of balance this may feel almost impossible, but an effort to establish a regular routine is very important for all people with a Vata body type. Rest sufficiently, and choose foods, behaviors, personal relationships, and environmental circumstances which can be instrumental in balancing vata characteristics. It is also important to regulate mental and physical impulses and to modify mental attitudes, emotional states, and behaviors in supportive ways. Sweet, sour, and salty tastes decrease vata influences, so include these tastes if vata influences need to be diminished. Milk, wheat, rice, and some fruits and berries can provide sweet and sour tastes. Regular exercise should be relaxed and moderate. Hatha yoga practice in a meditative mood is good, as are t'ai chi, walking, and swimming. Avoid strenuous, competitive, frantic activities. When possible, associate with people who are calmly purposeful. Meditate every day for deep relaxation. PITTA constitutions will be upset by alcohol and cigarettes, as well as by overwork, overexertion, and overheating. When out of balance, they are susceptible to feeling such negative emotions as hostility, hatred, intolerance, and jealousy. Therefore it is very important for Pittas to keep cool (literally and figuratively) and to lead a pure and moderate lifestyle. Choose foods, attitudes, behaviors, personal relationships, and environmental circumstances which can be instrumental in balancing pitta characteristics. Because sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes decrease pitta influences, include these in your food plan if pitta characteristics are too pronounced. Complex carbohydrates, milk, and some fruits are sweet; some green, leafy vegetables are bitter; beans and some green vegetables are astringent. Do things that cool the mind, emotions, and body. Avoid conflicts. Cultivate the virtues of honesty, morality, kindness, generosity, and self-control. KAPHA'S are prone to lethargy, sluggishness, depression, and overweight, Kaphas need activity and stimulation. Daily exercise is more important for them than for any other type. Getting out of the house and actively seeking new experiences is also valuable. Be receptive to useful change, renounce impediments to progress, be intentional in implementing life-enhancing actions, and choose foods, mental attitudes, behaviors, exercise routines, and relationships and environmental circumstances which can be instrumental in balancing kapha characteristics. Pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes decrease kapha influences. Black pepper, ginger, cumin, chili, and some other spices provide the pungent taste; bitter is provided by some green leafy vegetables; and some green vegetables and beans provide the astringent taste. Note that the taste that decreases a dosha usually increases one or both of the other two. For general purposes, mildly increase the proportion of foods which are helpful while somewhat decreasing the proportions of others-having a sampling of all six tastes at your major meal. Meditation can be more intensive for kapha constitutions than for vata or pitta constitutions. Schedule time every day for prayer and meditation. Here are my (Dragonflower) results (look below for the link so you can take the quiz
and in the next post I will talk more about this concept) For now, just
take Part One
Your scores are Vata: 5 Pitta: 5 Kapha: 0
Based on your results, you are a VATA-PITTA: Vata is the principle of
movement and change. It can be identified as the Wind element. People
with a predominance of Vata in their nature tend to be thin, light, and
quick in our thoughts and actions. Change is a constant part of life.

if Vata becomes excessive, they may develop anxiety, insomnia, dry
skin, or irregular digestion.

Pitta is the principle of transformation represented in our digestion
of ideas, sensory experiences, emotions, and food. It is associated
with the Fire element. People with a predominance of Pitta in their
nature tend to be muscular, smart, and determined. If balanced, a Pitta

In hollywoodok's layout, using the Black Hat method of Feng Shui, her garage is in the Helpful People area. This is going to be tricky... Helpful People concerns those who are benefactors which can be friends, family, employers, etc. You can imagine what a cluttered mess would bring to this life path area! So it would be beneficial to try and keep the garage as clutter free as possible and in good repair. If it were me, I would hang a crystal in the middle of the garage. Her layout also shows that there is another bedroom and it is in the SE corner of the property. This bedroom falls in the Knowledge Area according to this particular layout. This would be a great place for a home office if it is not needed as a bedroom. Computers, book shelves and anything that has to do with learning (certificates, diplomas, awards, etc.). Now looking towards the right hand side of her layout between the Garage and the Kitchen is her Children's Area. This is a very tricky house to try and balance with Feng Shui! I will have to see this area to be able to suggest how to work with it. On the left side of her layout between both bedrooms would be the Ancestors Area. Again, I would need to see the house to be able to suggest tips for balancing the area here as I don't see any room on the layout that suggests a hallway between the two bedrooms, they appear to be separated only by a wall. The middle of the entire house is the Health Area. From what I can tell on this layout it would be between the Living room and Dining room. Here isn't too hard to work with because we can use the colors of yellow, orange, and earth tones. Statues are good to place in Health areas too. Sorry I couldn't be more specific but without seeing the house at this point it is really hard to give tips on what to do. I look forward to seeing the house, I love a good challenge! Dragonflower

Feng Shui often sounds very complicated but really it isn't.
You just have to decide which method you are going to use and
then do some simple "cures" to get the energy flowing.
Here are some more suggestions I have for hollywoodok's
floor plan...
According to the baqua when layed out over her floor plan,
her Wealth section is located in bedroom. Hmmm...not where
I would want it to be but sometimes we can't help where these
areas fall. Unless we are building our house rather than
buying an existing house, you work with what you get.
So this is going to make things a little harder but not
impossible.
The Wealth section of our home is all about
making money while the Career section is all about getting
and staying established in a career. So what she does want
to do is add a little of the colors Red, Purple, Green,
and Gold. Maybe even place on a dresser top a pretty bowl
where spare change is dropped into at the end of the day.
Perhaps some symbols such as Feng Shui coins or Feng Shui
good luck frog would be helpful too. The main thing to be
careful about is clutter, if the wealth section is cluttered,
not kept nice and tidy, then it will reflect onto the finances
coming into the home.
Usually in a Wealth section the addition of a water feature
is nice to have but since this is a bedroom, I wouldn't suggest
it in this particular layout.
Moving over to the right of the baqua according to her layout,
the kitchen in this particular school of thought (Black Hat Feng Shui), would be the Relationship section.
Like the bedroom where the Wealth section occurs in this layout, the
kitchen is not the ideal place for the Relationship section to be
located. But let's see how this could be worked with...
In the this section (Relationship) we are dealing with marriage, or
other relationship that involves love, romance and sexual relations.
Again, clutter is going to be a big problem here if ot kept up with.
Kitchens in themselves represent emotions, health and finances. The
water aspects in a kitchen as well as a bathroom represent emotions and
health, the fire in the kitchen represents finances. So it is real
important to make sure that all leaks are fixed, the plumbing is in
good working order and the stove works properly and all burners are
clean.
Like I said, this is going to be a challenge since so far we
have two rooms that are not the best places for where they
fall in this layout. But in the kitchen as the Relationship
section it is really going to be necessary to keep it clean
and tone down some the fire aspects.
More tomorrow to wrap it all up.
Have a great day everyone.

hollywoodok sent me the layout for her new house and asked for some
suggestions. I thought I would go ahead and post it for anyone who
might find the topic interesting.
Using the bagua what we are going to
do is place it over the layout of the house with the black, blue and
gray area directly over the front door (the mouth of chi).
In this particular layout, hollywoodok's front door is East, and the
way it looks from the layout...East and a little North. So with the
baqua in mind and not using the compass method...this is where we are
going to start and designate the Living Room as the Career Section.
Directly across (West) would be the Fame and Reputation Section which
in this layout is in the Dining Room. Also, from what I can tell, this
is where the back door is located.
It looks as though there is maybe a small divider between the Living
Room and the Dining Room but not much of one. In this case because it
seems to be a straight shot from front to back, I would suggest trying
to divide the two rooms a little more. Without seeing in person yet, I
am not sure exactly what should be done but simple things such as
hanging a small wind chime in the middle would be helpful. If a wind
chime would disrupt the decor, a multi-faceted crystal, such as those
found for ceiling fan chains would work nicely too. The idea is to try
and redirect the chi (energy) so that it flows throughout the other
rooms before exiting out the back of the home.
Since this could turn into a really long post, I will stay with these
two rooms for now and later move on to some of the other rooms.
Even though I am not going to go by the Compass method which is what I
use in my own home, with the Living room as the Career section of the
home, I would suggest that this be the place where the color black and
water elements should be placed. Touches of black, dark blue, and white
in the form of throw rugs, art work, sofa pillows, etc. As well as a
water feature in which the water looks as though it flows into the
home.
The Dining room, being the Fame and Reputation section (in this
particular layout).... I would suggest touches of Red, Orange, Gold,
Yellow, colors that remind you of the sun/fire. Adding a little touch
of green wouldn't be a bad thing here either.
Here I want to talk a bit about the colors because according to the Feng Shui concept, colors are very important. Black
is associated with the water element and not only good for the Career
section but also helpful in the ancestors and wealth sections. It helps
give a boost to areas concerned with career, wealth and money.
Blue is also associated with
water and like black is good for career, ancestors and wealth sections.
It is representative of faith, confidence and fidelity.
Green is another color to add to the wealth, fame and career sections because green is the color of growth, balance and harmony.
Gray is a metal element color
but also helpful in the Career section in small amounts. It is
primarily used in the Helpful People and Children sections. You don't
too much gray in the Career section so just a little in the way of a
splash here and there.
Orange, while primarily used
to represent the Earth element and applied to the areas of
relationship, knowledge, health, helpful people and children...can be
used as well in the Fame section to encourage the gathering of people,
mental and physical activity, as well as joy. Used in a dining room is
a great place for this color, but again, only in splashes here and
there so it is not overwhelming.
Purple is a good color for the
Fame and Wealth areas but you don't want to let it take over a room. It
is better for rooms designed to be used more for meditation, sacred
space or devotion. But because of it's representation of royality,
nobility and power, small splashes can enhance Fame and Wealth.
Red is a fire element and
should not be used in abundance in any section with the exception of
the Fame section. It is a high energy color that you have to be careful
with. Splashes of Red are benefical when energy needs to be increased
in any area but with caution. Best saved for Fame, and small splashes
within Relationship and Knowledge unless used as a cure for stagnant
areas that need a little clearing. But when cleared the Red should be
removed.
Yellow is a good splash color
for Fame, Relationship, Knowledge, Children and Helpful People. It
represents wisdom, mental clarity, and energy. Mainly a Health section
color but a splash here and there helps give a boost to the other
sections. It is also another color that encourages gatherings.
More on this topic and layout to come...
